July 2024 – Julia Timmins

Another good turn out from the society members for a slightly different demonstration type, but remaining true to the Arts & Crafts objective of the society, Julia Timmins visited the society in July 2024 to demonstrate the art of wood carving and subsequent printing. 

Julia worked for many years in the Birmingham jewellery trade before transferring those skills to the intricate art of creating prints from wood carvings.  Julia is also the national secretary of the society of wood engravers

Due to the “time intense” nature of wood engraving/printing Julia was not able to demonstrate a final image but instead showed the complete process via exhibits and partial demonstration, some images of her work is shown below for interest along with a couple of images from the evening which was very well received by the society
